India shows ingredients of greatness

India can be mighty proud of the series victory over England. They have gone through hard yards to emerge victorious. 4-0 is perfect reflection of their determination, courage and adamantine will.

By scoring 655 runs and securing Man of the Series Award - Virat Kohli - led his side from the front. He showed the track to his fairly young team. Albeit, at times his captaincy was bit debatable, field placements were fledgling but in that aspect he is only bound to improve. One palpable difference between Virat and past India captains, say MS Dhoni, is that Virat always keeps his seamers in the game - a factor that will help India to do well abroad.

Indian seamers outbowled their English counterparts and the fact that they picked about 25% of total wickets will be heartening for any Indian Cricket fan.

Ravichandran Ashwin success with bowl was inevitable as well as invaluable. Throughout the series his batting also resuscitated India from various delicate positions.

Ravindra Jadeja has grown leaps and bounds in this series. Jadeja who is always regarded as a rank turner bowler. But this series without giving up unerring accuracy, he varied his game by adding subtle change of pace variations. The dip and drift has become his friends not as adjacent as they are with Ravichandran Ashwin but still got enough to deceive opposition. Jadeja's batting contribution were consistent throughout the series - an important facet in strengthening India's lower middle order.

The biggest positives were the emergence of Jayant Yadav and Karun Nair. The ease with which they acclimatized to the demands and standards of International cricket needs to applauded. Perhaps the strong system (Rahul Dravid is India A and u-19 cricket coach) at grass root level helped them. Great sides over the years like West Indies of early 80s and Australia of last decade, have had solid bench strength, India have one now.

The sign of great team is to decimate their opponents. India have done that four times convincingly despite losing 4 out of 5 tosses. Even when series outcome in India's favour was assured, on day 5 in Chennai India showed ruthlessness and conjured a victory from jaw of draw to make it 4-nil. The last two matches were won by an innings that too after conceding 400 plus in their first innings. This speaks about volumes of character that India showed. Moreover triumph have come on fair pitches.

Virat Kohli has laid emphasis that it's just the beginning, it's nothing compared to what Indian team wants to achieve.

Though India have shown sign of greatness the real test is yet to come - the foreign tours. But that should not take sheen away from India's home dominance.

As they say, charity begins at home!
